Hey all! I have a favor for you guys. I know I generally talk to you guys on a regular basis, whether it be on the phone or internet and will probably end up asking you to take my survey there, I thought I'd post it on here too. Please Please please please PLEASE take it. It's for my research paper I'm doing for school.
Body Integrity Identity Disorder is when a person feels an extremity, usually an arm or leg, does not fit their internal or mental image of themselves. They’re not delusional; they know it’s theirs and that it’s perfectly healthy and usable. They just feel it’s simply not supposed to be there. It's commonly compared to Gender Identity Disorder (Transexuals).
- Before starting this survey, had you ever heard of Body Integrity Identity Disorder?
- Do you feel people with Body Integrity Identity Disorder should be able to have an elective surgery to remove the unwanted limb?
- Do you feel elective surgery to amputate a limb on a person with Body Integrity Identity Disorder violates the Hippocratic Oath (to do no harm and help only) all doctors have to take?
- Do you think a person with Body Integrity Identity Disorder would be accepted by the general public if he or she decided to publicly announce his or her disorder?
- How common do you think this disorder is world-wide?
1-10,000 10,000-50,000 50,000-100,000 100,000 or more
6. How do you think people who are not amputees by choice feel about Body
Integrity Identity Disorder?
Positively Indifferent Negatively It shouldn’t matter what they think
- Because of its rarity, Body Integrity Identity Disorder has not been added to the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health (the psychological Bible). Do
you feel Body Integrity Identity Disorder should be added to the DSM?
- Though not many surgeons have performed elective surgeries on people with Body Integrity Identity Disorder, do you feel there should be psychological evaluations before a person can be considered?
- Should this type of elective surgery ever become common practice, do you think the expenses should be covered by health insurance due to mental disability?
- Do you feel Body Integrity Identity Disorder should be more publicized?
The last few days I haven't been blogging, not because I've been busy, but, well, just because there hasn't really been a whole lot to say. This morning, though, I had an interest on my car (which isn't actually for sale yet). Let me explain how this went:
I worked last night, so around 8 this morning I was on my way home. I was low on gas last night, but didn't have time to stop and get some. I was sure I had plenty to get me to work and could stop on my way home. Well I got to work and everything was fine. On my way back as I was getting to a gas station, my car started jerking and slowing down. Now for those of you who have ran out of gas, you know exactly what was happening. For the lucky ones who have not, let me explain. I was running out of gas. I was almost to the gas station when my car stopped: no more gas. I was a little worried at first, kind of spazzy actually. My first instinct was to call Matt and have him tell me what to do. I didn't though, I thought to myself "Tess you're a big girl, you figure it out..." Then I started to call roadside assistance to tow me 10ft to the gas station. After it started ringing, I hung up. Duh, gas station, they sell gas containers....Anyway, I decided to just go buy one and get a gallon or two in my car to get me there. Well on my way out I decided to lock my door because it was a busy road ( I remember actually thinking this too) and did so. I come back with my gas and you'll never guess what I did....yes you did you're right, I locked my keys in my car.
So this time I actually DID have to call my roadside assistance. I did so and they said it would be about 45 minutes before the guy got there. Luckily it wasn't too hot out, though I was wearing long pants and a black long sleeved shirt.. Anyway, I called mom to talk to heer for a while and about 15min later a cop pulled up behind me. I was a little scared, I thought maybe I had done something wrong. But it turns out he just wanted to see what was up. I explained what was going on and everything and he called his people to come unlock my door. It took a total of 5 minutes. While we were talking I was telling him about my insurance and my new car and how I had only had to use my road side assistance for my neon but my subaru had a tree fall on it. I mentioned in there that it was our extra car and everything I guess because he started asking me about the gas mileage and total mileage on the car and such. I didn't think anything of it because I like answering questions I know about the car, it makes me feel smart! lol He then said that he was looking for a commute car because he lived in Elk River and worked in St. Louis Park. He asked how much we were going to ask for it and I told him. I also told him that my boyfriend and I are sharing the two cars for a couple of weeks until his is fixed. He then said that he'd like to look at it then. So I gave hime my number and yeah!
So anyway, what started as a bad luck day turned out to be a better luck day! How's that for handy? I just thought I'd blog that in here since it was something pretty cool I thought.
Oh, here's a picture of our "apple tree".
